      The book Migration, Citizenship, and Development examines the effects of country-of-origin citizenship on the Indian diaspora in the United States and return migrants in India. It explores how the Overseas Citizenship of India affects remittances, investment, philanthropy, return migration and political lobbying. In contrast to most other countries, both Germany and Israel have descent-based concepts of nationhood and have granted members of their nation (ethnic Germans and Jews) who wish to immigrate automatic access to their respective citizenship privileges.       I am a Senior Lecturer in Social Anthropology at the University of Manchester. I seek to contribute to a critical anthropology of the post-Soviet state through a consideration of place, territory, transnational migration and border work, based on long-term ethnographic fieldwork in Kyrgyzstan and Russia.   Any consideration of global migration in relation to work and citizenship must necessarily be situated in the context of the Great Recession.
